We made horrific potty-mouthed turkeys come alive in augmented reality
Client: Modern Toss
Skill set: Web AR / Web App
Modern Toss got in touch with an idea for a Christmas experience in their new fanzine Knowtes.
Our brief from Jon
- 'I've been making some roast turkey portraits of rich and famous people, and was wondering about making one of them sing a carol?
For the animated thing that is triggered in the fanzine? They're obviously 2D, but could that be a goer.
Maybe if it appeared projected on a flat plane? The other idea is using the seasonal bullock stick rotating with music and snow.'

We love Modern Toss work so loved turning the idea into (augmented) reality.
For the final production we created 2 singing turkeys by projection mapping the original faces onto 3D meshes and then sculpting them further to look like the fully formed horrific franken-turkey hybrids envisaged.
We rigged the turkeys to be able to lip sync and read through their festive audio voice overs.
The project was delivered as a Web AR experience with a branded camera functionality for easy social sharing.
